The “Event of the Year” is fast approaching and the Organisation Team have been extremely busy putting the finishing touches to the programme of activities to ensure that you will all thoroughly enjoy yourselves.

Track slots are still available on the Friday, so if you can get to Goodwood good and early then book for a pre-lunch session!

We are delighted to announce that Haynes Publishing Limited will be providing sponsorship for the Sprite Birthday Celebration on Sunday afternoon at Goodwood House. Sam Bacon, Haynes Marketing Manager, will be there to cut the cake!

International Healey Weekend, Goodwood 2008, is revving up to be a major success! Be sure you are there so as not to miss out on the fun!

The organisation team has had a very busy month. At the time of writing we have just 99 days to go before the event of the year and your interest is accelerating as the number of days reduces.

I can report that we have had to close entries for the Gymkhana on the Saturday as we have received 80 entries, the maximum we are able to manage. Concours entries still grow and again we will be closing entries within a couple of weeks or so as the numbers reach toward 70.

We still have track slots available on the Friday and just a few on the Saturday morning.

Please remember that the track sessions require your car to achieve 98db at testing.

For those of you who have already booked, I can advise that you will receive your ticket pack about four weeks before the event with full joining instructions.

The Austin Healey Club wishes to thank, Moss Europe, Heritage Insurance and CHP Insurances Services for there support.

Campers...........(back)

Are you camping at Goodwood?

Time rolls on and it will not be long before we will be making more detailed arrangements with Loveders Farm Campsite for the arrival of our Healey contingent.

As an alternative event to the Grand Ball on Saturday night, we are planning a DIY barbecue. We will be providing the hot coals, all you have to do is bring along your food and drink. If that sounds like a fun idea for you, please get in touch somehow and let us know. At least we'll know just how big the fire needs to be.

If you plan to attend the Grand Ball, getting your lady in her posh frock into a Healey may prove something of a challenge, not to mention the dreaded ‘Healey hair' on arrival. So, we are planning to lay on transport if there is the demand. Once again please get in touch and let us know so that we can get it organised.

Useful information will be:

•  Your name and contact phone no.
•  How many in your party?
•  Which nights will you be staying?
•  How many cars in your party – are they Healeys?
•  The number of tents and or caravans your party be pitching?
•  Ball or Barbecue?

We can be contacted at:
38 The Boulevard, Worthing, BN13 1LB

Or on:
01903 243216 at any time

We look forward to hearing from you.

International Healey Weekend, Goodwood 2008. An absolute must for all Healey owners!!

So what new “News” have we for you?

Bookings over the Christmas and New Year period were extremely good. With spring just around the corner we are definitely heading for a sell out with the expectation that we will have over 400 cars at the event!

To date we have 50 Concours entries, 73 for the Gymkhana and 47 booked in for the Rocker Box Racing and that's just to mention a few of the attractions. I can also report that there are but a few tickets left for the Crystal & Gold Grand Ball, so anyone who still wants to go had better book without delay!

I am delighted to be able to say that we have another major sponsor on-board. HPF Energy Services have made it possible for us to organise the Hill Climb Parade using the Goodwood House “Festival of Speed” hill. While it will not be possible for everyone to run the hill, we will be organising parades for Historic Cars and a good cross section of our guests club cars. There are very tight controls over speed but the experience is not to be missed. The Club wishes to thank Steve Faulkner of HPF Energy Services for his generous support of our event.

Murray Scott Nelson

................ will be attending with a Trade Stand. Our Thanks to Mike and the Team, we look forward to seeing you at Goodwood.

With about seven months to go until “International Healey Weekend 2008”, and “The Sprite 50th birthday party” the organisation teams work load has moved up another gear and with it the excitement increases!

Bookings during September were particularly strong from our Club members following the issue of another booking form in RevCounter. Interest from outside the Club is also growing with the publication of the event in the October edition of Octane magazine, PR is being rolled out to other classic magazines and associated clubs in the coming weeks. We expect a large number of new members attracted to the Club as a result of this fantastic event.

Jim Palmer, Booking Office, says,

Concours D'elegance Competition – Sunday 18th May
This competition is being held at Goodwood House, with the Concours cars parked around the carriage circle in front of the main portico.

Derek Mayor, the Chief Judge and organiser believes that “This has got to be the finest backdrop for our annual Club Concours that I can remember, and a particularly fitting location for celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Sprite.”

As this is Goodwood, we have organised special keep-sake trophies for the Sprites, sponsored by AH Spares to complement the annual awards for all marques. However, we believe that this is a too good an opportunity to miss and therefore a special “best in competition” big Healey keep-sake will also be awarded. We anticipate around 60 Concours cars entering, and judging by the response to date we will surely reach that number!

Camping at Goodwood
The Recommended Camp Site ……..

Jack & Celia Powis, our representatives, have surveyed a number of local camp sites and recommend the following…..

JM Caravans-Loveders Farm Camp Site, Inlands Road, Nutbourne, Nr Chichester PO18 8RD

It would be great to get all the campers together at one site!

Jack & Celia will be acting as co-ordinators and would be pleased to hear from you if you are contemplating camping for the weekend. Tel : +44 (0)1903 243216

The Thelma Segal Memorial Trophy
With many new members joining the Club, there is probably a need to enlighten all of you about the origins of this important award.

The Thelma Segal Memorial Trophy was presented to the Austin Healey Club in 1978 by Syd Segal, Thelmas' husband. Thelma was a very active and enthusiastic member of the Club, she sadly died in 1978 following a distressing illness. Syd wanted to donate a trophy in her memory, to be awarded annually on an aggregate basis from points gained in both the Concours and driving tests/gymkhana at the International Healey event. The trophy award is open to all Austin Healey Club UK members driving any Healey model. Syd Segal successfully campaigned highly modified big Healeys in the late 60's and early 70's.

We are pleased and excited to report about the tremendous support that we have received from you to date. Bookings are coming in thick and fast and considering that it is only eight weeks since the launch, both the track time slots and Grand Ball tickets are selling very rapidly. “The response has been phenomenal, over half our Grand Ball tickets have been sold already! Interest in the event is beginning to extend further afield, with enquiries from Belgium , Holland and Australia .

"Our message is to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment” said Phil Gardner IHW 2008 Event Director.

Live Music at Goodwood 2008

Courtesy of the kind sponsorship of Hardy Engineering, you will be dancing the night away at the Grand Ball to “Magnum” a seven piece band playing hits of the sixties and seventies. On Sunday at the Goodwood House Sprite Birthday Garden Party the mood is totally different. It is “swing” in the Glen Miller style brought to you by the Redhill & Reigate Community Big Band.

Next months update will contain more detailed information about the Concours competition and a bit of history relating to the Thelma Segal trophy.

It is just a month since the launch of International Healey Weekend at Goodwood and even with over nine months still to go, advanced bookings are progressing at a pace. There is clearly great interest in the event so please book early to avoid disappointment. We suspect also that Goodwood 2008 will turn out to be a truly International event, as we have already received bookings from the USA and Northern Ireland.

With the tremendous support of our booking sponsors, Denis Welch Motorsport, have assisted us in getting the booking process underway via Revcounter and online through this website which went live on 15th July.

We are also delighted to advise you that AH Spares have now joined the growing list of sponsors, supporting us to put on an even more action packed event. Bob Hill and his team at AH Spares have agreed to sponsor the special keepsake trophies for the Sprite Concours Competition to be held on Sunday 18th May outside the Portico at Goodwood House. This must be the best backdrop for an AHC Concours Competition ever! With a new and growing stock of Sprite and Midget specialist parts to add to the wide range of big Healeys parts, we are pleased that the company has chosen to support the Sprite Concours.

Rocker Box Racing….A challenge of ingenuity and great fun!

Has last months article issuing this challenge sparked your imagination? We hope to have many entries for this competition, hence a little more information about how to build your racer!

Rocker Box Racing is gravity racing using an “A” Series BMC rocker cover. The cars are raced down a track two at a time in heats until the final two battle it out for the top prize. Entry to the race is free to all. You just have to come along with your racer and get involved. While the booking form contains a tick box, this is only to give us an indication of how many cars we are likely to have, so even if you do not tick the box initially when booking but later on are all fired up with the prospect of building and racing a car, then that's fine by us. The rules and regulations relating to the building and racing of the cars can also be within this site. If you wish to participate but require a rocker box cover, then please get in touch . We may be able to help.
